MHRunners: Interval Training with Polar

 Print

2009/10/17

Interval training involves bursts of high-intensity work, alternated with periods of rest or low activity. It’s one of the best workouts to boost your fitness and increase your running speed, whether you train on the track or on the treadmill.

While interval training can help boost one's speed & fitness, running too fast or too hard without adequate rest can cause injuries or overtraining. In this workout session, we aim to demyth some of the "ill-practices" in interval runs. The key to an ideal workout volume and intensity is pegged on one's running goal. We will help participants translate some of the "target time" in any distance race which they are training for into a desired HR zone and the target pace.

Runners will also learn how to determine the ideal recovery time and level in between the sets. Runners will reap the benefits of the stimulus from a higher intensity workout without under or over performing.

MH Runners is a running club by Men's Health magazine, Singapore's number one men's magazine. The October's MH Runner's workshop focuses on a training session with Polar.

The speaker-cum-trainer is Shem Leong, the first accredited Singapore Ironguides coach and a triathlete himself.
