On 17th March 2010, as I stood in front of my bathroom mirror, I did not like the person looking back at me. That was the day, I promised I would change. My weight was 107kg. The very next day, I started exercising. I recall the first day walking on the treadmill, I was sweating, huffing and puffing. I could not walk more than 20 minutes. I looked around the gym and saw other fitter people running and brisk walking. I was embarrassed with myself and took it as my personal challenge. That day I set myself a goal, I wanted to weigh 67kg before my 35th birthday in December.
I worked hard, pushed myself everyday in the gym. I read about good eating habits, strength training and cardio vascular exercise. That's where I learnt about cardio zone and the advantages of using a heart rate monitor. I bought Polar's FT4 monitor. Within the first week, I could see the benefits of pairing a heart rate monitor with my workouts. I was able to increase my workout intensity, gain better control of my heart rate and calories burnt during each workout session.
Most importantly I started seeing downward movement when I stood on the scale. I steadily lost weight every month and achieved my goal of 67kg on 29th November 2010 (three weeks before my 35th birthday). I was so proud of myself and would not have been able to do it without my Polar heart rate monitor. Today I feel like a completely new person.
