I hate running. I am no runner. I failed my school fitness tests since young. After I dragged finish a 10km walk in 2006 rather than run, I told myself that I need a sports watch. I started running from not being able to complete 1.6km nonstop to 5km to 10km to full marathon. I never failed to bring along my Polar. It was never good enough to just use it as a timewatch. Having a gut-feel on my runs are never accurate without my Polar. I completed vertical marathons -- controlling breathing with my heart beat rate at every second on my Polar.
My Polar has pushed me to sprint off my signature finish at races. It has served me well – from local Singapore US marathons. I won my first bronze medal in a charity race in 2007. In a Gold Coast marathon, someone showed off his GXXXXX watch. I asked for the price. With that, I told him it was alright, my Polar was good enough. Today I tell myself I still have potential. Hopeful that every beat on my heart continue to reasonate with my Polar.
